Glass: Architectural / Automotive

Our customers are in the architectural and automotive glass business, BOLD Laser Automation TM (BOLD) group provides solutions to the emerging requirements of the industry in regard to future development with the addition of thin glass materials to the fabrication process of architectural glass products.  The BOLD TM group proactively seeks to work with clients that have specific needs for precision thin glass laser cutting sheets, from 600x600 mm2 to 2300x3700 mm2.  BOLD TM works with clients who have specific ideas and process requirements to tailor a precision thin glass laser cutting technology to those requirements.  BOLD TM group adapts the laser technology to the various process flows that a customer desires; BOLD TM tailors it to existing material handling workflow; material handling practices and even modularizes the laser technology for reconfigurability on the work floor as market demands shift during the lifecycle of a product.  BOLD TM serves to add value to customers products.

Within the marketplace, there is a multitude of laser-based glass cutting processes, the question is which do you choose?  BOLD TM offers its assistance when working with clients.  In many cases, the final process might be a combination of techniques to ensure process quality, repeatability and accuracy.   BOLD TM offers various options including such techniques as, Filamentation and Direct Ablation. For product information Contact BOLD

Laser Glass Drilling

When it comes to glass drilling, the reality is releasing small features within the glass sheet, such as speaker holes or mounting features, are limited to thin glass materials, such as thickness ranges from 0.5 to 1.1 mm, with hole diameters down to 3 to 4 mm.  For larger holes with glass thickness >1.1 mm, there are other techniques, such as Laser Ablation.  In terms of microelectronic applications, through via holes can be made to a diameter of <35 microns.

Glass Thin Film Patterning

Thin films are very useful for glass applications where the glass substrate is part of a system that needs to perform a specific function.  Applications for automotive glass heaters and IR reflective coating are common, biomedical devices where the thin film provides a means to conduct diagnostic tests and in architecture next generation smart windows which trigger a shading or solar energy functions.   In these cases, the thin film might need to be patterned or edge deleted.  BOLD TM has developed a number of systems for this type of application including 3D robotic edge deletion for windshields and linear patterning systems for touchscreen displays.  Coatings that can be patterned are numerous, however the most common are TCO "Thin Conductive Oxides", Graphene, ITO, Metals and Multi-layered dielectric coatings which can consist of different coatings, such as metals.
